Professional profile

Alexander Tavella is the director of the peripheral diagnostic laboratory SCT6 – Bolzano of the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale delle Venezie.

He graduated in Veterinary medicine from the University of Vienna (Austria) and obtained his doctorate from the same University (Institute of Breeding and Genetics). He undertook a postgraduate specialization in Breeding, hygiene and pathology in aquatic species from the University of Padua (Italy). He currently works for the Diagnostic service of the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale delle Venezie (IZSVe) in Bolzano where he coordinates the Serology laboratory and the technical assistance unit. Since December 2018, he has been appointed as Director of SCT6 – Bolzano. In addition, he provides consultancy to professional operators specializing in pathologies of domestic ruminants.

Alexander Tavella’s research interests include infectious diseases with particular emphasis on viral and bacterial pathogens in livestock. He currently cooperates with the Institute of Virology, University of Bern (Switzerland), in research on small ruminant lentiviruses.
